Nagpur: The New Kamptee police, after completing the probe in a molestation case within four hours, managed to file the chargesheet in 19 hours on Wednesday, setting a benchmark. This week witnessed Beltarodi police filing a chargesheet within 13 hours. City cops have adopted the strategy of quickly filing chargesheets in cases of crime against women as part of the 100-day actionable agenda of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. This has led to the fast probes.
In the latest case, a 25-year-old labourer was arrested for allegedly making undue advances towards his kin on the pretext of requesting a glass of water. Sources said the labourer also ended up biting the survivor when she resisted. An offence was registered at New Kamptee police station for molestation on Tuesday at around 8.45pm. The investigation was assigned to sub-inspector Shrusti Kadam by senior inspector Mahesh Andhale. She was assisted by woman constable Deepti Motghare.
Andhale said the preliminary investigation was wrapped up on Tuesday by 11.45pm, which was digitally recorded too, but the scrutiny of the chargesheet required some more hours before it could be cleared by Asst CP Satyaveer Bandiwar. It was finally submitted in the court at 11.45am on Wednesday after nabbing the culprit. "The culprit was released on a surety bond of Rs5,000 by the Kamptee court. We have requested the court to take up the trial too within the shortest possible time," said Andhale.
Andhale said the evidence was collected on the e-sakshya app as per the latest guidelines, with videographic footage of the evidence collected and statements recorded. "We recorded the statements of five persons, including the survivor. The conviction is expected in the case as the investigation officer ensured all the possible evidence was collected and adduced to the chargesheet," said Andhale.
